A new digitised X-ray system and accompanying generator has been generously gifted to the Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust for working horses. The Trusts’ new centre will receive a Carestream Vita Flex Digital X-Ray from BCF Technology—imaging specialists in the veterinary field.

Professor Derek Knottenbelt, who began raising money for the charity through ‘Horsepower Team’ motorcycle events, was astounded.

“We are absolutely astounded by the amazingly kind donation of a digital X-ray system and generator,” said Knottenbelt. “Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would have such a system that could be used at the equine hospital in Gambia. BCF have supported us every year since we started Horse Power CPD, back in 2010. We are completely blown away by such a generous donation. It will make a real difference to the lives of those we are trying to support and the care of their working animals—thank you BCF.”

Managing director of BCF, Gavin Mitchell, said the team were thrilled to help outfit the recently built hospital Knottenbelt that his team had been working on.

“We knew Derek wanted to kit out the equine hospital in Banjul, Gambia, that they helped build last year. We really wanted to support Derek and his team and knew the X-ray system would be ideal.”

The new Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust’s centre will not only contain a hospital, but also stabling for local animals, offices and volunteer accommodation.
