RAD-X HFby Louisa Hughes VN, Coreen Avenue Veterinary Clinic, Penrith, NSW

The Rad-X is first digital X-ray machine and it’s a huge improvement. We use it multiple times each day and I’m amazed at how little time it takes to do a complete set of radiographs.

What’s good about it

It’s quick and easy to use with a touch screen to enter the patient’s details. The factor chart is simple, allowing exposure factors to be easily determined and resulting in fast, clear radiographs. Once the button is pressed, the image appears on screen within seconds. Several views can be taken in less than five minutes, the results are displayed on screen and can be manipulated. You can zoom in, crop different sections, adjust definition and invert the colours.

There’s no need for chemicals and as we no longer need a dark room, we’ve freed up a room in our clinic. We use RxWorks software and the images are saved straight to the patient file. The images can also be saved to a disc or easily emailed. It’s just a great all-round system.

What’s not so good

There’s not much to dislike about the Rad-X. The only drawback is the large outlay to purchase the unit. In saying that, the unit repays itself rapidly.
