On New Year’s Day 2020, Animal Welfare League NSW (AWL NSW) mobile vet teams joined volunteers and staff to rush to the Far South Coast as first responders to the bushfire crisis that threatened lives and the homes of the local communities.
To recognise AWL NSW’s service to the community during this catastrophic event, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian recently issued Premier citations for 19 members of the AWL NSW team, who were directly involved in bushfire efforts or were on the field at various fire grounds across the state.
AWL NSW CEO Mark Slater presented the citations and lapel pins to all the recipients last month.
“Our efforts went on for three months and saw some of our staff working not only under duress but in situations that tested their professional capacity and mettle as humans,” Slater said.
In a media statement released to coincide with the occasion, AWL NSW expressed their heartfelt gratitude to their donors and supporters, writing: “Without their generosity, it would be difficult to cover multiple emergencies as we did this same time last year and in early 2020. The public’s unwavering support strengthened our resolve in deploying rapidly during emergencies and disasters.”
