Ethan Laval celebrated his birthday by completing a selfless act of kindness.

The 10-year-old swapped birthday presents for a cash donation to the Soi Dog Foundation Australia.

He raised $100 which has been handed over to Mackay Soi Dog Foundation Australia supporter and veterinary nurse Skye Sinclair.

The foundation helps rescue dogs from horrendous condition and helps to sterilise, feed and shelter dogs.

Ms Sinclair said the money would go a long way.

“It would feed 150 dogs for a week, get three male dogs desexed or vaccinate five dogs,” she said.

“It’s really nice what Ethan has done.”

Ethan’s mum Tammy Laval said it was a great opportunity for Ethan to give back.

“They learn about giving back at school but this was a good way to apply it,” she said.

“We had about 10 kids at the party so that’s about $10 per child.

“Their parents rang me asking what they should buy Ethan so we told them instead of gifts if they could donate money.”

She said they were surprised how much they raised.

“I thought it was great for teaching them morals too,” Mrs Laval said.

“I think you might see this type of thing become a fad where you swap presents for donations.”

Ethan bought himself two gifts before donating the rest of the money to Ms Sinclair to give to the foundation.

Ethan said his family have two dogs, two chickens and a cat.

You can help Ms Sinclair and the Soi Dog Foundation at Andergrove Veterinary clinic, on Bedford Rd, Mackay QLD.
